The M54 in Shropshire will remain closed for several hours after a serious crash in the early hours of Friday morning. A car left the carriageway between Junction 3 (Albrighton) and Junction 2 (Wolverhampton), prompting emergency services to attend the scene.
Closure Expected to Last Through Rush Hour
A spokesperson from National Highways stated: "West Mercia Police are currently on scene and leading the incident with assistance from National Highways traffic officers." They added that the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours as police conduct collision investigation work, meaning the motorway will be shut during the Friday morning rush hour.
Diversion Route in Place
National Highways has confirmed a diversion route is active. Motorists heading east on the M54 should follow the solid square diversion symbol on local road signs. The route is as follows:
- Exit the M54 at Junction 3
- Head north on the A41
- Head east on the A5
- Head south on the A449 to return to the M54 at Junction 2
