Man, 83, Charged Over Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Staffs

An 83-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal collision in Staffordshire. Michael Bibby, 41, died after the motorbike he was riding collided with a silver Ford Ecosport on Belgrave Road in Dresden, Staffordshire, in December last year.

Sadly, nothing could be done to save the 41-year-old and he died at the scene. Almost six months on from the crash on December 29, Staffordshire Police has charged Peter Wood with causing death by dangerous driving.

Wood, of Longton in Stoke-on-Trent, is due to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on July 9. A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "A man has been charged following a fatal collision in Stoke-on-Trent last year. Peter Wood, 83, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving."

"We were called to Belgrave Road, Dresden, shortly before 12.30pm on Monday, December 29 2025 following a collision between a grey SYM Jet motorbike and a silver Ford Ecosport. The rider of the motorbike, 41-year-old Michael Bibby, of Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent, sadly died at the scene. His family continue to be supported by specialist officers. Wood is due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on July 9."

In a statement shared in the days after his death, Michael’s family said: “It is with great sadness and extremely heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Michael Bibby, aged 41, of Finstock Avenue in Blurton, following a road traffic collision in Dresden on December 29 2025. He was a very much-loved son, brother, uncle and friend and is going to be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Ride high Mikey B – ‘Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever’."
