West Midlands Police have made a significant arrest in their investigation into the murder of a teenager in Birmingham.
Teenager Fatally Stabbed in Handsworth
Yassin Alama, aged 19, was stabbed on Hutton Road in Handsworth at approximately 5:20pm on Sunday, November 16. Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, the young man tragically died from his injuries.
Detectives have launched a murder inquiry and are urgently seeking 17-year-old Oumar Traore, who is wanted for questioning in connection with Yassin's death.
Arrest Made in Connection with the Investigation
In a key development, a 20-year-old man was arrested in Birmingham at around 1am on Tuesday, November 18.
He was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender, specifically related to helping the suspect wanted over Yassin's murder.
Appeal to Locate Suspect and Public Warning
Police have confirmed that numerous attempts have been made to locate and arrest Oumar Traore since the incident.
Jenny Birch, from the force's homicide team, issued a direct appeal, stating: "We have officers working around the clock to locate and arrest Traore. I’d urge him to hand himself in at his nearest police station immediately."
She added a stark warning to anyone who might be helping him: "Anyone who is helping him evade capture also faces arrest."
The family of Yassin Alama are being supported by specially trained officers. Ms Birch described them as "absolutely devastated by what has happened."
Members of the public are advised not to approach Oumar Traore if they see him but to call 999 immediately, quoting log number 3135 of 16 November.
