A man has been arrested following a fatal road collision in Birmingham that left one pedestrian dead and another seriously injured. The incident occurred on Soho Road in Handsworth, prompting a major police investigation and an appeal for witnesses.

West Midlands Police were called to Soho Road at approximately 11.20am on Tuesday, December 16, after a car collided with two pedestrians near the junction with Whitehall Road. Emergency services attended the scene, but despite their efforts, a 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the location.
A 47-year-old woman was also injured in the crash, sustaining leg injuries. She was taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains. Police have stated her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle involved, reported to be a Vauxhall Corsa, fled the scene following the collision. The car was later recovered by officers nearby.

A 41-year-old man was arrested just before 9am this morning on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is currently in custody and will be questioned by detectives in due course.
