A man has been arrested following a vicious dog attack in Birmingham that left a nine-year-old schoolgirl with severe injuries. Eva Mangenje, aged nine, suffered deep puncture wounds and spent 11 days in hospital after being mauled by a suspected XL Bully in Erdington's Springthorpe Green on November 16 last year.
Details of the Attack
The incident occurred as Eva walked home from a shop with her mother, Alicia. According to Alicia, the dog ran towards Eva and began mauling her leg. Eva was bitten on her leg and arm, sustaining what her mother described as life-changing injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Birmingham Children's Hospital, where she underwent two surgeries and remained as an inpatient for 11 days.
Police Investigation
Following the attack, Eva and her mother gave statements to the police. However, Alicia expressed deep concern over what she perceived as a lack of progress in the investigation. She stated, 'Several months later, I am deeply unhappy and distressed by the lack of action and accountability in this case.' Officers have now confirmed that a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being the owner or person in charge of a dog that was dangerously out of control. He has been released on bail as enquiries continue. A police spokesperson said, 'A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being the owner or person in charge allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. He has since been bailed as our investigation continues. We are continuing to update the family as our enquiries progress.'
