A man was attacked with a chair outside a fish and chip shop in Sutton Coldfield, prompting a police investigation and a cordon at the scene.

Incident on Chester Road

The assault occurred opposite the Beggars Bush pub in New Oscott on Tuesday, June 16, at around 9:30pm. Witnesses reported a fight outside the New Oscott Fish Bar on Chester Road.

West Midlands Police confirmed that a man in his 40s was struck with a chair during the altercation. He sustained injuries to his head and hand and was taken to hospital. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Emergency services response

Police cordoned off the area, and the ambulance service was called to reports of a stabbing. However, paramedics did not treat the victim as he had already made his own way to the hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing on Chester Road at 9:32pm, one ambulance attended the scene. However, on arrival there was no patient found and we were stood down.”

Appeal for witnesses

No arrests have been made so far, and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. A police spokesperson said: “We were called at around 9:30pm last night to Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield, after reports of disorder. A man in his 40s was assaulted and hit with a chair. He went to hospital with injuries to his hand and head which are not believed to be life-changing or threatening.”
