Redditch Man Banned from Tesco and B&Q Under Criminal Behaviour Order
A man from Redditch has been prohibited from entering a shopping centre, as well as Tesco and B&Q stores, after failing to comply with a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). Kamil Novak, aged 29, has now been issued a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) that specifically bans him from urinating in public places, except in public toilets, and from causing a nuisance to others.
Three-Year Order and Financial Penalties
The order, which will remain in effect for three years, was handed down at Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday, February 9. In addition to the restrictions, Novak was ordered to pay a total fine of £240, along with costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £48. This follows his conviction for two counts of failing to comply with a PSPO in Redditch town centre on March 20 and July 9 of the previous year.
Specific Prohibitions Under the Order
The CBO imposes several strict prohibitions on Novak, including:
- Entering Trafford Retail Park in Redditch or being within its boundaries and car parks.
- Being on Unicorn Hill in Redditch.
- Entering the Tesco store and filling station on Coldfield Drive, Redditch.
- Entering the B&Q store on Jinnah Road, Redditch.
- Possessing an open vessel of alcohol in any public place, unless in an area where alcohol consumption is permitted.
- Refusing to leave a premises or area when asked by someone with authority.
- Urinating in a public place, save for public toilets.
- Causing a nuisance to members of the public, businesses, or the community within Redditch.
Police and Council Response
Police Sergeant Katie Ward of the Redditch town centre team emphasized the importance of the PSPO, stating, "Working with our partners at Redditch Borough Council, we introduced a Public Space Protection Order in the town centre in 2024 for three years. This is to help us prevent the actions of the small minority who cause antisocial behaviour from ruining it for the majority." She added that the court result demonstrates their commitment to enforcing the order and protecting the public from Novak's disruptive actions.
Councillor Monica Stringfellow, Portfolio Holder for Community Services and Safeguarding Responsibilities at Redditch Borough Council, commented, "This is why the borough council authorised the town centre PSPO - to support our partners to have the tools they need to keep Redditch safe."
Public Urged to Report Breaches
Authorities have urged anyone who sees Kamil Novak breaching the terms of the Criminal Behaviour Order to contact the police immediately by calling 101. This measure aims to ensure ongoing compliance and maintain public safety in the Redditch area.
