A 60-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body inside a property in Smethwick, West Midlands Police have confirmed.
Body found in South Road property
Emergency services were called to South Road, Smethwick, at approximately 3.15pm on Thursday, August 6, after a member of the public reported finding a man in his 40s unresponsive at the address. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The property, which had been converted into flats, was sealed off by police while forensic examinations were carried out. The road itself was also closed to traffic during the initial investigation but has since been reopened.
Suspect arrested and charged
Following the discovery, a 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was subsequently identified as Cecil Dillon, also of South Road, and was charged overnight with murder.
West Midlands Police said in a statement: "A man is due in court today after a body was found in Smethwick this week. Cecil Dillon, 60, was charged overnight with murder after the body of a man was found in South Road, Smethwick on 6 August. The body was found just before 3.15pm following a call from a member of the public."
Family informed and court appearance
The family of the deceased man, who was in his 40s, have been informed of his death. Police have stated that their thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
Dillon has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Saturday, August 8, to face the murder charge.
