Detectives have launched an attempted murder investigation after a man in his 30s was stabbed on Lozells Road in Birmingham, leaving him fighting for his life in hospital. West Midlands Police confirmed that a 31-year-old man was quickly arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody for questioning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service received reports of the stabbing at 8.54am on Monday, August 10, and dispatched a significant emergency response. Five ambulance resources were sent to the scene, including an ambulance, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor with a Critical Care Paramedic, and a Midlands Air Ambulance Charity helicopter.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing on Lozells Road at 8.54am on Monday. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital by land ambulance.” The man's injuries have been described as life-threatening, and he remains in a critical condition.
Crime scene and community impact
Following the incident, Lozells Road was cordoned off, with a large police scene established. Local shops were temporarily inaccessible, and the National Express West Midlands number 52 bus service was diverted in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene.
The police cordon remained in place throughout the day as forensic officers conducted their investigations. Residents and business owners in the area were advised to expect a continued police presence while enquiries continued.
