Man Sentenced to Prison for Cruel Online Advertisement of Ex-Girlfriend
A man who maliciously advertised his ex-girlfriend online for sex after their relationship ended has been jailed, following a distressing case that left the victim feeling frightened and vulnerable. Declan Guess, aged 24, shared the woman's name, address, and intimate photos on websites, leading strangers to visit her family home seeking sexual services.
Victim's Life Severely Impacted by Harassment
In a heartfelt statement, the victim, now in her 20s, described how men began arriving at her family home, revealing posts that falsely advertised her for sex. She expressed that the situation caused immense stress and upset over the years, severely damaging her self-esteem and mental health. "In many ways, it has ruined my life," she said, highlighting the profound impact of Guess's actions.
Police Investigation Uncovers Disturbing Evidence
The case came to light in October 2022 when the victim's family reported strangers visiting their home. When challenged, these individuals showed posts from multiple websites advertising the victim. Police identified Guess as the perpetrator and seized his mobile phone, where they found:
- Intimate images of the victim
- Over 500 indecent images of children
- Images depicting bestiality
Guess admitted to stalking and distributing indecent images of children, leading to his sentencing at Leicester Crown Court on Thursday, February 12. He received a three-and-a-half-year prison term and was made subject to a restraining order, a sexual harm prevention order, and placement on the sex offenders register.
Breach of Protection Order and Ongoing Concerns
In August 2025, a stalking protection order was issued to prohibit Guess from contacting the victim. However, he breached this order in September 2025 by following her on Instagram. Investigating officer PC Kate Butler from Leicestershire Police emphasized the immense impact on the victim, stating, "Her whole life was turned upside down."
PC Butler added that while they cannot undo the past, they hope Guess's guilty plea helps the victim move forward. She also urged any other potential victims to come forward, noting that specialist officers are available to provide support and guidance through the reporting process.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Guess faced multiple charges, including:
- Stalking
- Breach of stalking protection order
- Possession of extreme pornographic images
- Three counts of making indecent images of children
- Three counts of distribution of indecent images of children
During the investigation, indecent images were categorized, with category A representing the most serious offences. The police commended the victim and her family for their courage in reporting the crimes, reassuring the community that such offences are taken seriously and perpetrators will be brought to justice.
