Manhunt for prisoner Anthony Lloyd after medical unit escape

Police have launched a manhunt for a prisoner with links to the Midlands who escaped from a medical unit in London and is considered a risk to himself and the public. Anthony Lloyd, 38, absconded from the facility in Lewisham, South London, at around 4.10pm on Friday after forcing his way out, the Metropolitan Police said.

Lloyd was last seen heading in the direction of Catford. Officers believe he could be anywhere in London, and he also has connections to Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Merseyside.

Conviction and transfer

The Press Association understands Lloyd was convicted in 2025 of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) relating to an incident in Nottinghamshire involving three emergency workers. He received a 12-month custodial sentence, which he was serving in prison. In September, he was transferred to the Lewisham medical facility.

Police have described Lloyd as white, around 5ft 8in, of medium build with short dark hair. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a grey-blue t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Public warning

The force has warned members of the public not to approach Lloyd. Detective Superintendent Melanie Pressley, who is leading the manhunt, said: “We are conducting various significant inquiries to find Lloyd and return him to custody.

“We are concerned he poses a risk both to himself and the public, and would urge anyone who sees him to call 999 immediately. Do not approach him.

“If you have any information – however small – that could help us locate Lloyd, please get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.”
