Masked Intruder Sentenced to Seven Years for Violent Bedroom Assault

A 47-year-old man has been jailed for his involvement in a terrifying aggravated burglary in the Midlands, where a television was thrown at a victim's head during a violent home invasion. Sandy Hughes, of Penncroft Lane in Danesmoor, Derbyshire, admitted to the crime and was sentenced at Derby Crown Court.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

The victim, a man in his 20s, was at his home with a friend in the early hours of Saturday, October 25 last year when he heard loud banging noises. Upon opening his bedroom door, he was confronted by three men wearing face coverings. The masked intruders forced their way into the room, pushing the victim backwards.

During the assault, one of the burglars pulled a television off the wall and threw it directly at the man's head. The attackers also stole the victim's wallet and mobile phone before fleeing the scene in Danesmoor, Derbyshire. The victim sustained injuries to his head and arm as a result of the violent attack.

Investigation and Sentencing

Police investigations revealed that one of the burglars was known to the victim and was identified as Sandy Hughes. Hughes pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison at Derby Crown Court on Friday, January 30. In addition to the prison term, he was handed a restraining order.

Detective Constable Lindsay Clarke of Derbyshire Constabulary commented on the case, stating, "This was a terrifying attack in which Hughes invaded the property of the victim – a place where he should have felt most safe – before attacking him and stealing his belongings." Clarke also praised the victim for his cooperation and bravery in assisting the investigation team.
