Two masked men robbed the Boots store in Armitage, Staffordshire, on Saturday (August 8), locking staff inside and demanding keys to the till. Staffordshire Police have launched an appeal for information, and believe a third suspect was waiting outside.
Robbery details
The incident occurred at the Boots store in New Road, Armitage, in the Lichfield district, shortly after 4pm. The two men entered the shop wearing face coverings – one a balaclava, the other a Covid-style face mask – and both wore gloves. They locked the door behind them and demanded staff hand over the keys to the till.
Once they had accessed the till, they left the shop on foot, heading down New Road towards Old Road. Staffordshire Police were alerted at around 4.20pm.
Police appeal
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “We’re investigating a robbery at Boots in Armitage and we’re looking to speak to anyone with any information that may be able to help. The incident was reported to us at about 4.20pm on Saturday (August 8). Two masked men went into the shop and locked the door behind them before asking the staff for keys to the till. The suspects left on foot down New Road, towards Old Road.”
The statement continued: “One of the suspects was described as wearing a balaclava and a black top. The second suspect was described as wearing a grey tracksuit, a high-visibility jacket and a medical style face mask. They were both wearing gloves.
“We believe a third suspect was waiting outside the store. He also left with the other two suspects on foot. He is described as black, around 5ft 6ins tall with a large build and short black hair. He was wearing a white or cream linen shirt and black trousers.
“No customers were inside at the time of the robbery. We’re keen to speak to anyone who may have saw the suspects or those with CCTV, dashcam and doorbell footage at the time of the incident. Call 101 or use Live Chat on our website, quoting incident 653 of 8 August.”
Impact and next steps
The store was empty of customers at the time, but staff were present and locked inside during the incident. No injuries have been reported. Police are asking anyone with information, or with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the area at the time, to come forward by calling 101 or using Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website, quoting incident 653 of 8 August. The investigation is ongoing.
