Midlands Rapist Receives 12-Year Sentence Following Victim's Brave Cooperation

Riaz Armani, a 29-year-old man with no fixed address, has been jailed for 12 years after being found guilty of two counts of rape at Leicester Crown Court. The conviction came after a trial where the court heard harrowing details of the attack on a vulnerable 16-year-old girl.

Predatory Encounter and Assault

In September 2023, shortly before midnight, Armani deliberately targeted the teenager after encountering her alone in the Hamilton area of Leicester. He lured the young victim back to his then-home address on Harringworth Road. Once there, he supplied her with cannabis before raping her.

The victim managed to leave the address later that night. A night shift worker found her around 4 a.m. the following morning and immediately contacted the police. This prompt action initiated a critical response from law enforcement.

Extensive Police Investigation Leads to Arrest

Officers from Leicestershire Police carried out extensive enquiries to identify and locate the suspect. Within a few days, Riaz Armani was arrested based on evidence gathered during the investigation. The police work was thorough, focusing on securing justice for the victim.

DC Williams, from Leicestershire Police's specialist rape and serious sexual assault team, praised the victim's resilience. "Throughout her ordeal the victim has shown incredible strength," DC Williams stated. "It took extreme courage for her to share the details of what had occurred so that officers and staff could carry out a thorough investigation."

Victim's Determination Secures Conviction

The sentencing marks the culmination of a two-and-a-half-year process since the incident occurred. DC Williams highlighted the victim's unwavering commitment to seeing the perpetrator punished. "The victim’s determination and persistence to see this perpetrator punished for his actions has stayed with her," DC Williams added. "It is thanks to her that he is now going to spend many years behind bars."

This case underscores the importance of victim support in sexual assault investigations. The young woman's bravery in coming forward and cooperating with authorities was instrumental in ensuring a dangerous offender was removed from the community.

Leicestershire Police continue to encourage victims of sexual offences to report incidents, assuring them of specialist support and thorough investigative processes. The successful prosecution of Riaz Armani serves as a testament to the effectiveness of such collaborative efforts between victims and law enforcement.
