West Midlands Police have launched a murder investigation after a man in his 30s died from stab wounds on Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield, in the early hours of Saturday, August 8. A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody, with officers stating they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Emergency Response and Fatal Stabbing
Police and ambulance services were called to Chester Road, on the border with Oscott and Kingstanding, shortly after midnight on Saturday. A man in his 30s was found with stab wounds and sadly died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency responders.
The arrest was made quickly, and detectives believe the suspect and victim were known to each other, according to a West Midlands Police spokesman. The spokesman said: “A man is in custody today on suspicion of murder after a man died in Sutton Coldfield overnight. We were called to Chester Road shortly after midnight after a man was stabbed. A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody while our enquiries continue.”
Road Cordon and Forensic Investigation
Chester Road remains cordoned off on Saturday morning between its junction with College Road at the start of the New Oscott shops, and at Antrobus Road and Court Lane, the other side by Hall’s Garden Centre. The garden centre remains open but has only a handful of parking spaces available, with people able to access the site on foot.
Forensic officers and a detective were at the scene on Saturday morning to gather evidence as part of the investigation. The police cordon has disrupted traffic and local access, with diversions in place while the scene is examined.
Police Appeal for Information
The police spokesman added: “Officers are remaining at the scene today to investigate and gather evidence and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area last night and might know more about what happened. If you have any information which could help with our enquiries, call 101 quoting log 113 of 8 August.”
West Midlands Police are urging witnesses or anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, and the community is asked to remain vigilant as officers work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal stabbing.
Community Impact and Ongoing Enquiries
The incident has shocked the local community, with residents expressing concern over the violence. Chester Road is a busy thoroughfare, and the cordon has caused disruption throughout the morning. Police have assured the public that there is no wider threat, as the suspect is in custody and the investigation is focused.
This murder investigation is one of several recent violent incidents in the West Midlands, prompting renewed calls for community cooperation with police. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to come forward, emphasising that even small details could be crucial to the case.
