Next recalls two Mint Velvet wedge sandals over fall risk

Next has issued an urgent recall for two pairs of women's shoes over safety fears that shoppers could fall and injure themselves. The homeware, womenswear and menswear giant recalled the Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals after the footbed was found to "may detach" during use.

Recall notice issued over footbed detachment risk

The Office for Product Safety & Standards, operating under the Labour Party government, published a recall notice stating the wedges "present a risk of injuries as the footbed can become detached from the wedge heel during use". The notice warned: "If the footbed unexpectedly became dislodged during use, the user could fall leading to injuries."

The recall affects two pairs of shoes: the light tan wedge sandals and the brown wedge sandals. Both are described on the Next website as "neutral suede open toe sandals featuring an espadrille mid wedge heel, gold-tone stud detailing and an ankle strap buckle fastening".

Affected model numbers and how to return

Shoppers are advised to check their footwear for affected model numbers Y79431 and Y79434. Local Authority Trading Standards submitted the product safety alert under notification number 2610-0072.

Next said: "If you have purchased an item on your account which is later recalled, it can be returned by any of the following methods on our website. If you have purchased an item from one of our stores, and it is later recalled by us, please return the product to a store* – your original till receipt is not required."

The company added: "Some furniture products may not be suitable for return to store. And in this situation we will contact you to make arrangements for its return. This service is available in most of our retail or clearance stores, except our airport stores."
