A Birmingham man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a horrific campaign of sexual abuse against a young boy and for possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.
Years of Abuse and a Brave Disclosure
Mohammed Ali, aged 23, of Onisbury Road in Handsworth, was investigated after a boy under the age of 13 found the courage to report the abuse to police. The victim disclosed that he had been raped and sexually assaulted by Ali on multiple occasions over a period of several years.
Police described the boy as vulnerable, stating that Ali had systematically taken advantage of him. The abuse included multiple rapes, for which Ali was charged.
Vast Collection of Illegal Material Uncovered
During the investigation, officers examined Ali's phone and discovered a cache of 443 indecent images and videos of children. Disturbingly, 250 of these files were classified as Category A, the most severe level depicting the worst forms of abuse.
Ali was not only hoarding this material but was also found to have been distributing indecent images of a child.
Court Sentencing and Police Praise for Victim
At Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Ali pleaded guilty to a total of eleven charges. These included:
- Eight counts of rape, four of which specifically related to the rape of a boy under 13.
- Three charges of distributing indecent images of a child.
The judge sentenced him to an extended prison term of 18 years. He was ordered to serve 12 years in custody, with a further six years on licence upon his release.
Detective Constable Georgia Taylor, from the West Midlands Police child abuse investigation team, commended the victim's bravery. She said: "The boy bravely came forward to report the sexual abuse to us and we must praise him for the courage he has shown in what has been a very sensitive investigation."
The police spokesperson emphasised that survivors of sexual assault are protected by lifelong anonymity and that specialist support is available through their dedicated rape and sexual assault support services.
