Phoenix Park in Wolverhampton has been cordoned off by police as part of preparation for an upcoming murder trial. The park, located off Dudley Road, was closed by officers on Thursday, September 3, as police work at the scene.
The cordon comes after Navpreet Singh, a 26-year-old man, was allegedly attacked at the park on Tuesday, October 21 last year. He died the following day, according to West Midlands Police.
Murder charge and arrests
Jashan Singh, 20, from Wolverhampton, has been charged with murder following the death of Mr Singh. At the time of the incident, three men were arrested in connection with the death.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed that the current scene at Phoenix Park is part of preparation for a murder trial which is due to take place in the coming weeks.
Details of the attack
At the time of Mr Singh's death, a spokesperson for the force said: "A man who was killed in Wolverhampton has now been named as Navpreet Singh, as three men have been arrested in connection with his death."
"Mr Singh presented at hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked in a car park off Dudley Road. Tragically, the 26-year-old was confirmed dead shortly after arriving at hospital at around 1.30am on Wednesday (October 22)."
"Following enquiries we now understand he was attacked by a group at around 11.30pm on Tuesday evening. We've been progressing our enquiries and a 20-year-old man is currently in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder."
Bailed suspects
"Two other men, aged 23 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of murder in the last few days and have since been bailed pending further enquiries," the spokesperson added.
The park remains cordoned off as police continue their work at the scene ahead of the trial, which is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
