West Midlands Police have launched a witness appeal following what they describe as "unacceptable scenes" during the EFL Cup first-round match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Port Vale at Molineux on Friday, 7 August 2026.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the disorder, which broke out in the away end during the match. Four individuals, aged between 17 and 45, were arrested on suspicion of affray after fighting erupted. A fifth person, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested on suspicion of causing intentional harassment, alarm or distress after an inappropriate gesture was made towards a female spectator.
Arrests and bail conditions
All five suspects have been released on bail with strict conditions while investigations continue. West Midlands Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the events leading up to the disorder to come forward.
In a statement, the force said: "We are investigating the disorder at this week's EFL Cup match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Port Vale. Four people, aged between 17 and 45, were arrested on suspicion of affray after disorder broke out in the away end during the match at Molineux on Friday."
The statement added: "A fifth person, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested on suspicion of causing intentional harassment, alarm or distress after an inappropriate gesture was made towards a female spectator. All five people have been bailed with strict conditions pending further enquiries."
Police urge witnesses to come forward
Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who saw the disorder or has information about the events that preceded it. They have urged witnesses to contact them via 101, quoting crime number 20/355180/26.
Chief Superintendent [Name], who leads policing at Molineux, said: "Scenes like this are completely unacceptable at football matches and we will continue to work with clubs and the EFL to take strong action against this type of offending."

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Port Vale have been contacted for comment. The EFL has reiterated its commitment to tackling disorder and working with clubs to ensure a safe environment for all fans.
This incident follows a crackdown on football-related disorder across the country, with authorities vowing to take firm action against those involved in violence or antisocial behaviour at matches.
