Police have confirmed they have completed their investigation into the death of a father-of-three who fell from the upper tier of Wembley Stadium during the Oasis reunion concert in August.
Investigation Findings
Lee Claydon, a 45-year-old landscape gardener from Bournemouth, Dorset, tragically lost his life while watching the legendary Manchester band on Saturday, August 2. The Metropolitan Police have stated their investigation is now complete and no criminal prosecution will follow.
Detective Sergeant James Raffin told an inquest hearing: "From a police point of view, this is no longer a criminal prosecution. We do not suspect any third party involvement. This, from everything we have seen, was a tragic accident."
Family's Concerns and Toxicology Report
DS Raffin confirmed that while Mr Claydon had consumed alcohol, this was considered "normal for any of the people attending" the concert. The officer acknowledged the family had concerns about the "circumstances on the night" and said these would be passed to Brent Council officials.
The police have definitively ruled out suicide as a factor in the incident. A post-mortem examination conducted on August 6 gave the preliminary medical cause of death as "multiple bodily injuries" consistent with a fall.
Family's Account and Ongoing Process
Mr Claydon's father, Clive, previously suggested his son may have slipped on beer that had been spilled on the floor. "There was beer all over the floor, it was really slippery, and Lee just slipped and fell," he said. "I've been told that it was an accident waiting to happen."
The full inquest has been scheduled for February 26 next year with Senior Coroner Andrew Walker presiding. The police will hand their complete report to Brent Council, who will conduct their own review of the documents.
Oasis released a statement following the incident expressing they were "shocked and saddened" by the death and extended their "sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved."
