West Midlands Police are investigating disorder that flared in Wolverhampton city centre following Saturday's match between Wolves and Stoke City. Videos posted on social media showed rival supporters repeatedly throwing the same traffic cone at each other and several men trading punches and kicks.
One clip, filmed from inside a premises on Lichfield Street, captured the violent confrontation. Another video showed police officers attempting to separate the groups along Princess Street, where Coral and The Billy Wright pub are located. In that footage, an officer was seen striking a man with a baton.
No injuries reported and no arrests made
West Midlands Police confirmed that no injuries were reported and it was understood that no arrests had been made. The force said it was conducting enquiries and reviewing the footage as part of its investigation.
A police spokesperson said: "We are aware of reports of disorder in Wolverhampton city centre. No injuries have been reported to us, and we are reviewing video footage as part of our enquiries."
Appeal for witnesses
The force has appealed for anyone who can assist with the investigation to get in touch, quoting crime reference number 20/380807/26. Witnesses can contact police via 101 using that reference number.
The disorder took place after the game between Wolves and Stoke City, with the incident occurring in the city centre. Police are continuing their enquiries and reviewing the video evidence to identify those involved.
