Police Appeal for Public Assistance After Man Jumps in Front of Vehicles in Burton-upon-Trent
Staffordshire Police have issued a public appeal for help regarding a man who has been repeatedly jumping out in front of moving vehicles in Burton-upon-Trent. The latest incident occurred on Wetmore Road at approximately 9:20 AM on Tuesday, April 21, prompting renewed concerns from both authorities and local residents.
Details of the Incidents and Police Response
The man, described as being in his late 20s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, and wearing black cargo trousers, a black jumper, black and white trainers, and glasses, has been reported in multiple locations. These include Princess Way and Main Street in Stretton, as well as Derby Road, Lichfield Street, St Peters Bridge, Wetmore Road, Wharf Road, Horninglow Street, and Horninglow Road in Burton.
Police officers attended the scene after the recent report but were unable to locate the individual. A Staffordshire Police spokesperson confirmed that no injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents. The man has been issued a Community Protection Notice (CPN), a formal legal document that carries potential consequences if breached.
Community Concerns and Public Reaction
Pc Georgina Brudzinska, an officer with the East Staffordshire Local Policing Team, emphasized the seriousness of the situation. "I want to reassure the public that we are aware of the issue and are taking positive action to resolve it," she stated. "Behaviour such as this causes disruption to the community and can put motorists and the individual at risk of serious harm."
However, members of the public have expressed frustration on social media, noting that this issue has persisted for years. One commenter, Bobinda Bob, argued, "He doesn't need an order he needs help and support. He needs someone to be with him a carer or a companion. Wandering around all day playing this dangerous game is negative to him and others."
Other residents, such as Rubena Kashwar, reported contacting police about the matter two years ago with little apparent action taken since. Havel Hensley observed that the man seems to target slowing vehicles, while Simon Stokes and Gemma Louise highlighted the frequency of these occurrences, with many drivers having encountered him.
How to Report Information
Police are urging anyone who witnesses this behavior, particularly those with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward. Reports can be made by calling 101, using Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. In emergencies, the public should always dial 999.
This ongoing situation underscores broader concerns about community safety and the need for appropriate support for individuals exhibiting risky behaviors. Authorities continue to investigate while balancing enforcement with potential welfare considerations.
