Leicestershire Police have released a CCTV image of a woman they want to identify as part of an ongoing investigation into a courier fraud scam that targeted a woman in north west Leicestershire. The victim was contacted by a man claiming to be a police officer, who told her that someone had attempted to purchase a laptop using her bank account details, and that she should withdraw cash from her account so it could be kept safe.
The incident occurred between March 25 and April 7, and during that time a woman later visited the victim's home to collect the withdrawn cash. Enquiries have been ongoing, and officers are now appealing to the public for help in identifying the woman captured on CCTV.
How the scam unfolded
According to a spokesperson for Leicestershire Police: "The victim was contacted by a man claiming to be a police officer stating that someone had attempted to purchase a laptop using her bank account and if she withdraws cash from her account they would keep it for safe keeping."
"A woman later visited the address to collect this withdrawn cash." The spokesperson added: "Enquiries have been ongoing into this incident, and officers have released a CCTV image of a woman they would like to identify."
Police appeal for information
The force is now urging anyone who may recognise the woman, or the woman herself, to come forward. The spokesperson said: "Anyone who may know who this woman is, or the woman herself is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 26000210574."
The investigation continues as officers work to trace the individual involved in collecting the money from the victim's home.
