Police warn joggers after Codsall pub incident

Staffordshire Police have issued a warning to anyone walking, jogging, or exercising in the early hours after a suspicious incident outside a pub in Codsall, Wolverhampton. The warning follows a report from a woman who was approached by an unknown man and later saw a car parked with its lights switched off near The Bentlands pub.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 18. The woman was walking on Suckling Green Lane near the turning for Poachers Way when she was first approached by an unknown male, according to a spokesperson for the force.

A short time later, the woman saw a vehicle parked near The Bentlands Public House with its lights off. When she shouted that she was calling the police, the vehicle immediately drove away from the area without its lights illuminated.

Police remind residents to stay vigilant

The force has reminded residents who may be walking, jogging, or exercising during the early hours to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. "If you feel uncomfortable or believe somebody's behaviour is suspicious, move to a place of safety and contact the Police," the spokesperson said.

They continued: "If you witness any suspicious behaviour, vehicles, or individuals acting in a manner that causes concern, please report it to us. In an emergency, or where there is an immediate risk to someone's safety, call 999."

For non-emergency matters, the public is advised to contact 101 or use the Staffordshire Police Live Chat service on their website.

Public information vital to prevent incidents

The spokesperson added: "Information provided by the public is invaluable in helping us build an intelligence picture, identify those involved, and prevent further incidents."

They concluded: "Thank you for your continued support in helping to keep Codsall and the surrounding communities safe."

The incident has prompted a renewed focus on safety for early-morning exercisers in the area. Police have not reported any arrests or identified a suspect at this time.
