Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man riding an e-scooter was fatally stabbed in an underpass next to a school in Redditch.
Officers were called to Martley Close, near St Thomas More Catholic First School, shortly after 8:35 AM on Tuesday, April 28. A 41-year-old man was found with a stab wound to his chest and was rushed to hospital by paramedics, where he later died.
Details of the Incident
West Mercia Police believe the stabbing occurred in an underpass that leads from Longdon Close to Martley Close and the Woodrow Centre. No arrests have been made, and extensive inquiries are ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Lougher from the Major Investigations Unit said: “Officers were quickly deployed to a report of a stabbing in Redditch this morning, where a man was found with a life-threatening injury. He sadly later passed away in hospital, and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Police Appeal for Information
“Officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries since this morning, including reviewing CCTV and conducting house-to-house visits. The victim was wearing dark clothing when he was found, and we believe he may have been riding an e-scooter prior to the incident.”
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a person matching this description in the area, or anyone with dashcam footage that might show activity in the area this morning, to come forward. “Information that may seem very small could be vital to us establishing how the victim came to suffer the fatal injury. Please get in touch if you have any information which could help,” DCI Lougher added.
An increased police presence is expected in the coming days, and the community is urged to speak to an officer if they have any concerns or information.
