West Midlands Police have arrested a second man in connection with a suspected hit-and-run incident in Birmingham that left a pedestrian with serious injuries. The 52-year-old was taken into custody on Saturday evening, while a 44-year-old previously arrested in London has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on Mayfield Road in Stirchley on Thursday, May 14, when a van allegedly struck a man in his 30s. The victim sustained leg injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition. The van failed to stop at the scene but was later recovered on nearby Prince Road and is undergoing forensic examination.
Arrests and Bail
The first arrest was made by the Metropolitan Police near Euston station in London on Saturday, May 16. Initially, officers stated that two men were arrested in connection with the Birmingham hit-and-run. However, a correction was issued clarifying that the second man was wanted for a separate offense involving encouraging attacks on police officers. The 44-year-old has since been bailed while investigations continue.
West Midlands Police confirmed that the 52-year-old arrested in Birmingham remains in custody on suspicion of wounding. Both men are being questioned as detectives review CCTV and social media footage to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
