Second person charged in Birmingham teen murder case

A second individual has been formally charged as part of a murder investigation launched after a teenager was stabbed to death in Birmingham.

Details of the Handsworth Tragedy

The victim, 19-year-old Yassin Alama, was fatally knifed on Hutton Road in Handsworth. The incident occurred on November 16, and despite emergency efforts, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Charges Brought in the Investigation

Last month, a 17-year-old boy was charged with Yassin's murder and has been remanded in custody. In a significant new development, West Midlands Police have now confirmed a second charge.

Olivier Gabbis, aged 20 and from Handsworth, has been charged with the offence of assisting an offender. Police arrested Gabbis in the local area during the early hours of Friday, December 19.

Ongoing Police Enquiries and Family Support

Gabbis is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court. The investigating officer, Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell, stated this represents another key step in the ongoing probe.

"Yassin’s family have been kept up to date with this and are still being supported by our specialist officers," DI Cordell said. "Our enquiries continue and I would urge anyone with information to contact us."

Authorities are continuing to appeal for information. Anyone with knowledge about the circumstances surrounding Yassin's death is asked to call 101, quoting log number 3135 of 16 November. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
