Serial Shoplifter Jailed for 26 Weeks After Theft Spree

A serial shoplifter who targeted shops in a Birmingham suburb has been jailed for 26 weeks after admitting a string of thefts. David Walton, 37, of no fixed address, was arrested on Monday (July 13) next to a shop in Hodge Hill following an investigation into multiple shop thefts and anti-social behaviour in the Fox and Goose area of Ward End.

Swift Justice for Repeat Offender

Walton was charged with 13 shop theft offences and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (July 7), where he pleaded guilty. The court immediately sentenced him to 26 weeks in prison. The arrest and conviction came as part of the West Midlands Police #SaferTownsSummer initiative, which aims to make shopping areas safer through visible patrols and enforcement.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “As part of #SaferTownsSummer we are working hard with our partners to make our town centre and shopping spaces as safe and welcoming as possible, for everyone. There’ll be visible reassurance patrols and enforcement activity in hotspot areas. And local officers are on hand as ever to listen to any concerns you may have. No matter how big or small your issue may be, we are here for you.”
