Shoplifter Alex Bull Handed County-Wide Co-op Ban and Jail Sentence

A persistent shoplifter has been barred from every Co-op store in Shropshire following a string of thefts across the county. Alex Bull, 40, received the comprehensive ban alongside a 16-week prison sentence after admitting eight counts of theft at Telford Magistrates' Court.

Court Imposes Strict Conditions Until 2029

The criminal behaviour order (CBO) prohibits Bull from entering any Co-op branch in Shropshire until February 2029. This measure comes after he targeted multiple stores, primarily Co-op locations, between December 2025 and February 2026. The court also convicted him on Monday, February 23, leading to his immediate custodial sentence.

In addition to the Co-op ban, Bull is forbidden from entering several other retail premises:

The order further stipulates that Bull must not refuse to leave any shop when requested by authorised personnel. Any breach of these conditions could result in additional prison time.

Police Emphasise Serious Impact of Shoplifting

Sergeant Rich Jones from Telford's town centre police team commented on the case, highlighting the disruption caused by Bull's actions. "Bull repeatedly targeted stores across Shropshire, causing significant disruption to staff and businesses who work hard to serve their communities," he stated.

"This CBO sends a strong message that persistent offending will not be tolerated. The conditions imposed mean Bull is now banned from every Co‑op in the county, as well as a number of other retail premises, and any breach could mean he faces a further custodial sentence."

Sergeant Jones added, "Shoplifting isn’t a minor matter, it raises costs for customers and creates real pressure on businesses. We will continue to take firm action against those who repeatedly offend and work closely with retailers to keep our communities safe."

Public Urged to Report Breaches

Authorities are asking the public to report any sightings of Bull violating his CBO conditions. Reports can be made to police via the 101 non-emergency number or through the West Mercia Police website. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting their online portal.

This case underscores the legal consequences for repeat retail theft in the region, with law enforcement taking a proactive stance to protect local businesses and maintain community safety.
