Six people have been arrested by police following the investigation into the disappearance of two girls from Rugby, who were found safe and well in Cornwall. The arrests were made after extensive enquiries by Warwickshire Police, with support from Devon and Cornwall Police.
Arrests Made in Cornwall and Rugby
In the early hours of Wednesday 12 August, officers arrested two men, aged 62 and 25, and one woman, aged 56, from Tintagel, Cornwall, on suspicion of abduction. A 42-year-old man from Falmouth was also arrested on suspicion of abduction. Later that morning, two women, aged 75 and 47, from Rugby were arrested on suspicion of abduction.
All six individuals remain in custody at this time, according to a spokesperson for Warwickshire Police. The spokesperson said: "In the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 12 August, we arrested two men, aged 62 and 25 and one woman, aged 56, from Tintagel, Cornwall, on suspicion of abduction. A Falmouth man, aged 42, was also arrested on suspicion of abduction. And later on this morning we arrested two women, aged 75 and 47, from Rugby on suspicion of abduction. They all remain in custody at this time."
Investigation and Community Reassurance
Chief Supt Jon Belcher said: "After extensive investigations, our colleagues at Devon and Cornwall Police who were acting on our behalf found the girls safe and well yesterday. We have been investigating how these girls came to be in Cornwall, and we have progressed our enquiries today with these six arrests."
He added: "The people who are currently in custody are all known to the girls so there was and is no wider threat to the community. Over the coming days, officers will be out and about in the community and in areas of interest, speaking to the community and conducting house-to-house enquiries. If you have any concerns, please talk with them."
