A fame-obsessed burglar who documented his £300,000 car theft spree on social media has been sentenced to nine years behind bars. Liam Moore, aged 20, brazenly posted videos of his break-ins on Snapchat, showing himself burning and snapping locks, alongside photographs of the stolen vehicles.
Crime Spree Across Birmingham and Solihull
Moore was arrested in October 2023 following a series of burglaries that targeted dozens of homes across the Birmingham and Solihull areas. A detailed analysis of his mobile phone provided crucial evidence, linking him directly to 13 separate burglaries and 14 car thefts. His online search history further implicated him, revealing searches for specific car models he intended to steal.
From Denial to Guilty Plea
Initially, Moore denied all charges related to the crimes committed between August 13 and October 7, 2023. However, on the second day of his trial at Birmingham Crown Court, he changed his plea to guilty, accepting responsibility for the extensive criminal activities.
Police Condemn "Insulting" Behaviour
Detective Sergeant Charlie Edwards, from Solihull Police, expressed relief at the sentencing. "I’m so glad Moore has finally been served the justice he deserves for what he has done," he stated. "Moore was that confident he wouldn’t get caught. He would film himself breaking into people’s homes and take photos of the cars he was stealing."
DS Edwards also highlighted the offender's disrespectful attitude, noting that Moore referred to his crimes as "grafting." "This is such an insult to the hard-working people he was stealing from," he added. "We worked really hard to ensure he was held accountable for his actions and I’m glad that he will now spend the next few years in prison."
The case underscores the risks of flaunting illegal activities online and the diligent police work that brings such offenders to justice, offering some closure to the affected communities in the West Midlands.
