A major Birmingham road has been sealed off after a driver fled the scene of a collision that left two pedestrians injured.
Emergency Response at the Scene
The incident occurred on Soho Road, near the junction with Whitehall Road, shortly before 11.20am on Tuesday, December 16. West Midlands Police confirmed that a vehicle struck two people before driving away from the location.
One victim sustained serious injuries, while the other was treated for leg injuries. A significant emergency service presence descended on the area, with West Midlands Ambulance Service deploying three ambulances, two paramedic officers, and a Critical Care Car.
Forensic investigators erected a blue tent outside the Pak Supermarket as part of their work to piece together the events.
Witness Describes 'Shocking' Aftermath
A woman working at a nearby dental surgery witnessed the immediate aftermath. She described seeing a grey Corsa speeding past before noticing a man lying in the road.
"I ran to see what was happening," she said. "An undercover police car was there within 30 seconds and they got out and did CPR, cut the clothes off, the ambulance came within minutes. They put the defibrillator on him, everyone was working on him... It's shocking."
Officers were quickly questioning potential witnesses at the scene as the investigation began.
Major Disruption and Community Support
Extensive police cordons have closed Soho Road in both directions between the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha Temple and Grove Lane. Pavements are also shut, with the public urged to avoid the area.
The trade body Soho Road BID issued a statement confirming the closure and noting that its officers were among the first on scene, providing support to emergency services and the community. Worshippers at the Nishkam Temple are being directed to use the Rose Hill Road entrance, with only residents and business owners permitted within the cordon.
Police are actively hunting the driver of the grey Corsa involved in the hit-and-run.
