Emergency services responded to a three-car collision on Aldridge Road in Streetly this morning, August 5, blocking the road in both directions and sparking fresh demands for speed cameras on the notorious crash blackspot.
The incident occurred shortly after 10.30am, with one person treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene. All three drivers remained at the scene, and police confirmed no serious injuries were reported.
Resident calls for action
Aldridge Road resident David Brown, who witnesses speeding and dangerous driving daily, has renewed his plea for improved road safety measures. He highlighted that existing speed bumps fail to cover the entire road, leaving a dangerous stretch where drivers accelerate.
Brown told BirminghamLive: "The traffic calming measures do not extend to this end of the Aldridge Road. Cars travelling north after the final speed hump accelerate towards the traffic island. There are turnings along that stretch and blind spots due to hills. Speed humps are needed urgently. Speed cameras would be best."
History of serious collisions
The latest crash follows a string of serious incidents on the same road. In October 2022, a 20-year-old man was killed when his Ford Fiesta was struck by a speeding Jaguar XF driven by a drink-driver. Just last month, two people were rushed to hospital after another collision on Aldridge Road.
These repeated incidents have heightened concerns among locals, who argue that current traffic calming measures are insufficient to prevent high-speed driving on the hilly, winding road.

Following today's crash, National Express diverted the 937 and 997 bus services away from the area. The road reopened by 11.33am, with services resuming normal routes.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Aldridge Road in Streetly, Sutton Coldfield, at 10.42am. We sent an ambulance to the scene. On arrival, one patient was assessed for minor injuries and discharged at the scene."
A West Midlands Police spokesperson added: "We were called to Aldridge Road, Streetly, at just after 10.30am today to a three-vehicle collision. No one has reported any injuries to us, and all the drivers have remained at the scene."
