Police have provided an update on an attempted murder investigation in Stafford. A man in his 60s remains in a critical but stable condition after being attacked on Thursday, May 14.
The incident occurred on a public footpath through The Castle Golf Club course near Newport Road at approximately 7pm. The victim was stabbed during the assault.
Arrest and Detention
Staffordshire Police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday, May 19, remains in custody as of Thursday, May 21. Detectives have been granted additional time to question the suspect.
A 30-year-old man who was also questioned in connection with the attack has been released on conditional bail.
Police Appeal
Authorities continue to appeal for information from the public. A police spokesperson stated: "Detectives investigating an attempted murder in Stafford have been granted extra time to question the teenager in custody. The 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday evening. Officers continue their extensive enquiries following the attack last Thursday."
The spokesperson added: "The victim, a man in his 60s, remains in a critical but stable condition and his family are being supported by specialist officers. We would again urge anyone who has any information to contact us via our online portal or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
