A manhunt is underway in Stafford after a man in his 60s was stabbed in an unprovoked attack near a golf course, leaving him in critical condition.
Attack Details
Staffordshire Police were called at 7pm on May 15 to Newport Road, close to Castle Golf and Leisure, following reports of violence. The victim had been walking on a public footpath through Stafford Castle golf course when he was approached by an unknown man and assaulted.
The victim was later found on a nearby bench by a member of the public. He is currently in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Suspect Description
Police are searching for a man described as in his mid-to-late 20s, of average build, and wearing dark clothing. Detectives are using drones, a helicopter, and CCTV footage to locate the suspect.
Police Response
Chief Inspector Saqib Butt, Stafford Borough local policing team commander, said: “We understand this is a highly worrying time for our communities and we are doing all we can to identify and apprehend the suspect.”
He added: “Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area before or after the assault should contact us as soon as possible. We would like to thank everyone who has provided information so far, and we will continue our house-to-house enquiries today. We will be carrying out robust proactive patrols locally throughout the day to help reassure residents that we are there for them.”
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
