Police have issued a major update in their ongoing investigation into a stabbing in Stafford. A man in his 60s was left in a critical condition following the attack on a public footpath through Stafford Castle golf course.
Staffordshire Police are currently hunting the suspect, who remains on the run after the incident, which took place at around 7pm on May 14.
Suspect Description
In an update issued on May 15, a force spokesperson said: "The suspect is described as a man aged in his mid to late 20s, potentially of Eastern European heritage, of an average build, wearing dark clothing."
Victim's Condition
The victim is now in a critical but stable condition, with specialist officers continuing to support his family.
Police Investigation
Staffordshire Police said detectives are completing extensive CCTV and house-to-house enquiries. Drones and the National Police Air Service helicopter are supporting activities in the area.
Appeal for Information
Detectives are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Castlefields area between 5pm and 8pm on May 14.
Chief Inspector Saqib Butt, Stafford Borough local policing team commander, said: "We understand this is a highly worrying time for our communities and we are doing all we can to identify and apprehend the suspect. Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area before or after the assault should contact us as soon as possible."
He added: "We would like to thank everyone who has provided information so far and we will continue our house-to-house enquiries today. We will be carrying out robust proactive patrols locally throughout the day to help reassure residents that we are there for them."
