Drone footage has revealed the huge impacts of a large fire that continues burning in Stourbridge for a second day. Flames initially broke out in the Racecourse Lane area, near to Stourbridge Golf Course, shortly before 1.30pm yesterday on Thursday, August 13. However, the fire quickly spread to around 40 acres of land, affecting woodland and other roads, before hitting people's homes.
Evacuations and Firefighting Efforts
As a result, a number of people were forced to evacuate. West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) said firefighters remain at six different sites today, damping down hotspots. Drone footage has captured huge plumes of smoke billowing into the sky across a wide area, drifting over houses, residential streets, roads, fields and tree tops.
Among the affected areas include Quarry Park and Brunswick Gate, where WMFS said it has "significant resources" monitoring both areas. A spokesperson for WMFS said: "Several exclusion zones are in place on both streets due to a number of buildings being structurally unsafe."
Public Safety Advice
Members of the public have been urged to stay away from the area. Residents and businesses have also been advised to close their windows and doors if they're affected by smoke. The spokesperson added: "There are pockets of smoke emerging from areas across the affected site, and crews are dealing with these as they arise. However, if you feel there is a need to call 999, please do so."
The fire service continues to monitor the situation across the six sites, with resources deployed to manage hotspots and ensure public safety. The exclusion zones at Quarry Park and Brunswick Gate remain in place due to structural concerns, and residents are advised to follow official guidance.
