Sutton Coldfield Thief Arrested in Shopping Trolley After Breaching Ban
A prolific thief from Sutton Coldfield was arrested in a shopping trolley after attempting to flee from police officers who spotted him at a retail park where he was banned. Kieran Brookes, aged 32, had been prohibited from entering Princess Alice Retail Park due to his history of previous offences.
Strict Conditions and Patrols Lead to Arrest
Brookes was subject to strict conditions as part of his Criminal Behaviour Order, which aimed to prevent further criminal activity. However, on Sunday, March 1, neighbourhood officers on patrol noticed him at the retail park as shops were preparing to open. When officers approached to move him on, Brookes ran away in an attempt to escape.
Unfortunately for him, he could not evade the police team. During his flight, he attempted to jump a fence but ended up landing on a shopping trolley, leading to his immediate arrest. This incident highlights the vigilance of local law enforcement in monitoring banned individuals.
Charges and Court Hearing
Following his arrest, Brookes was charged with two counts of shop theft and three counts of breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order. He admitted to all offences during a hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, March 2. As a result, he was sentenced to four weeks in jail, demonstrating the legal consequences for such violations.
Police Commitment to Community Safety
Speaking after the case, PC Tom Harris from the Sutton Vesey Neighbourhood Team emphasized the ongoing efforts to target offenders in the area. He stated, "We will continue to disrupt and target offenders in this area, so that businesses can trade without the fear of criminals like Brookes stealing from them."
PC Harris added that the police are working closely with shop owners, staff, and other partners to help protect businesses. He urged anyone with concerns to contact the authorities, reinforcing the community-focused approach to crime prevention.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to court orders and the proactive measures taken by police to ensure public safety and support local commerce in Sutton Coldfield.
