Armed Response in City Centre

Armed police officers were deployed to Birmingham city centre yesterday afternoon following reports of a man seen with a firearm. The incident occurred on Curzon Street at approximately 4.20pm on Sunday, November 9.

Swift Arrest and Weapon Seizure

West Midlands Police confirmed that their armed response unit quickly attended the scene. A 19-year-old man was detained by officers at the location. The firearm was seized and was later established to be a BB gun, a type of imitation weapon.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and also on suspicion of possession of a Class-A drug. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Police Statement and Ongoing Efforts

In an official statement, West Midlands Police said: "A man’s in custody after we were called to reports of someone with a firearm in Birmingham city centre. Armed officers were quickly at the scene on Curzon Street."

The force also used the opportunity to highlight their ongoing work against gun crime, stating that such offences have fallen by 15 per cent in the last year. They urged the public to always call 999 in an emergency and to contact them with any information about weapons.
