Two 16-year-old boys suffered serious injuries, one left fighting for his life, in two separate collisions in Birmingham on Friday, August 28. The crashes occurred 17 hours apart, with the first taking place near Birmingham City's St Andrew's ground and the second in Tyburn.
Cyclist seriously hurt in hit-and-run near St Andrew's
The first collision involved a 16-year-old cyclist at approximately 5.25am at the junction of Cattell Road and Templefield Street, opposite Birmingham City's St Andrew's stadium. A silver Vauxhall Astra was involved in the crash, according to police.
The boy was rushed to hospital in a serious condition. The car was abandoned at the scene, prompting a manhunt for the driver.
Motorcyclist critical after Tyburn crash
Just after 8pm the same day, a 16-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a car at the junction of Montague Road and Wheelwright Road in Tyburn. He was left in a critical condition in hospital.
The driver remained at the scene and was helping police with enquiries.
Police appeal for witnesses and footage
Det Sgt Julie Lyman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I am appealing directly to the driver of this car to contact us urgently. A teenage boy has very serious injuries and we are working hard to establish exactly what happened and who was responsible. I would also urge anyone else with information or footage to contact us as soon as possible."
Anyone with information about the first crash is asked to contact West Midlands Police, quoting log 580 of August 28. For the second crash, officers urge witnesses and those with footage to contact police quoting log 5121 of August 28.
