William Shaw, a 19-year-old from Endon, has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison after admitting robbery and resisting arrest. The sentence was handed down at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday, July 30, following an incident at a petrol station in Staffordshire.
Robbery in the Early Hours
The robbery took place in the early hours of September 11 last year. At around 1.30am, Shaw attacked a male employee at the petrol station before stealing a pack of beer and pastries. The victim was left shaken and scared in his place of work, according to Detective Constable Carla Statham, the officer in the case.
When Staffordshire Police officers arrived at the scene, Shaw kicked one officer and spat in another's face. During police interview, he answered 'no comment' to all questions.
Court Appearance and Sentencing
At the court hearing, Shaw admitted the charges of robbery and resisting arrest. In addition to the custodial sentence, he was ordered to pay a surcharge of £228 upon his release.
Detective Constable Statham said: "This was a violent robbery which left the victim understandably shaken and scared in their place of work. I am glad Shaw has been handed a period of detention for his offending and hope that this shows how we will continue to do all we can to pursue individuals who are intent on causing alarm and distress in our communities."
