Three arrested after Boxing Day hammer attack brawl

Three men have been arrested following a violent mass brawl on Boxing Day which left three others with serious head and facial injuries, some inflicted by a hammer.

Violence Erupts Outside Licensed Premises

The disturbance began inside a licensed premises on Grantham Road in Scraptoft, Leicestershire, before spilling out into the street at around 11pm on Friday, December 26. Police were called to the scene where they discovered three injured men.

The victims, aged in their 20s, 40s, and 50s, had all sustained injuries to their heads and faces. Officers confirmed that a number of the wounds are believed to have been caused by a hammer.

Three Suspects Released on Bail

In the days following the incident, Leicestershire Police made three arrests in connection with the affray. Those detained are:

  • A 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating, and affray.
  • A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.
  • A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and affray.

All three have been released on bail pending further enquiries as the investigation continues.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Detective Constable Megan Wolstenholme is now urging anyone with information to come forward. She is particularly keen to trace anyone who may have captured the incident on mobile phone or dashcam footage.

"While three people have been arrested, our enquiries are ongoing and I’m appealing for anyone with information who might be able to help," DC Wolstenholme said. "I’d also like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time but has not yet contacted police. Anything you’re able to provide could help our investigation."
