Three Birmingham men have been charged with weapons offences after West Midlands Police recovered a loaded gun and machetes in the Alum Rock area on Friday, August 28. The arrests followed the introduction of Section 60 stop and search powers and increased patrols in response to recent violent incidents.

Charges and court appearance

David Skervin, 24, Mohammed Akeen, 30, and Bilal Arshad, 30, are all charged with weapons offences and are due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, August 31. A fourth man arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Ongoing investigation and public appeal

The force confirmed its investigation remains active, with officers continuing to patrol the area. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward, urging the public to call 101 or use Live Chat on their website, and to dial 999 in an emergency. The Section 60 powers, which allow officers to stop and search individuals without reasonable grounds, were brought in following a series of violent incidents in the area. The seizure of the weapons marks a significant step in the police response to those incidents.

The three charged men remain in custody ahead of their court appearance, while the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the weapons continues.
