Three Robbery Arrests Made in Birmingham This Week

West Midlands Police have confirmed three arrests in Birmingham following two separate robbery incidents that occurred this week. The arrests are connected to an armed raid at a Lidl supermarket and an attack on a woman in her car.

Armed Robbery at Lidl Supermarket

On Monday, April 13, police were alerted to an armed robbery at the Lidl store on Dudley Road in Winson Green. During the incident, a staff member was attacked and injured, and thieves stole several items from the shop.

Officers responded swiftly, apprehending two men within 20 minutes of receiving the robbery report. The stolen goods were successfully recovered, and the injured staff member is currently recovering from the attack.

The two arrested individuals have been identified as Stephen Ngangi, aged 48 from Hay Park in Balsall Heath, and Guyo Katleo, aged 28 from Oxhill Road in Handsworth. Both men have been charged with robbery offenses, with Katleo facing an additional charge of threatening a person with an offensive weapon.

They are scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, April 15.

Separate Car Robbery Incident

In a separate incident, a woman was robbed while sitting in her car on Edmund Street in Birmingham city center on Easter Sunday, April 5. Although items were taken from her, she was not seriously injured in the attack.

Police investigating this robbery spotted a man wanted in connection with the incident in the city center on Tuesday, April 14. The 34-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been released on bail with strict conditions as police continue their enquiries.

Police Statement on Robbery Crackdown

A spokesman for West Midlands Police stated: "We're taking action against robbery, with three people arrested in Birmingham. At around 7.20pm on Monday, officers responded quickly to a robbery at a supermarket on Dudley Road. Within 20 minutes of the report coming in to us, two men had been detained and the stolen goods recovered."

The statement continued: "Separately, officers had been investigating a robbery in the city center on April 5, where a woman was targeted as she sat in her car. Items were taken from her but thankfully she wasn't seriously injured. While out and about early yesterday, eagle-eyed city center officers spotted a man wanted on suspicion of being involved."

The police emphasized: "Robbery is a serious crime, and we don't underestimate the impact it has on victims – which is why we're working so hard to tackle it. In Birmingham and across the West Midlands, officers are here for you 24 hours a day, and we would urge anyone with concerns to speak to us."
