A convoy of caravans and other vehicles arrived at Beaufort Park, near the Fox and Goose, in Hodge Hill, on Wednesday afternoon (October 21), using the Coleshill Road entrance and stopping on the former tennis courts.
The park was earmarked for measures to stop travellers gaining access earlier this year, but they have yet to be implemented, leaving residents frustrated.
Councillor demands action after repeated incursions
Councillor Majid Mahmood said residents were frustrated with the endless merry-go-round of incursions and evictions. He said: "Once again, Beaufort Park is facing an unauthorised traveller encampment, and residents are understandably frustrated.
"I have lost count of the number of incursions we have experienced this year, yet we are still waiting for preventative measures to be installed following previous encampments.
"Just weeks ago, I was assured that Beaufort Park was classified as Priority 1 for the installation of measures to prevent unauthorised access.
Taxpayers footing the bill
"So why are we still waiting, while the park faces yet another incursion? The all-too-familiar cycle continues with an encampment arriving, officers and police carry out welfare checks and take the necessary steps to resolve the situation, the park is eventually cleared of rubbish, and taxpayers are left footing the bill for cleaning up and repairing the damage.
"I want to see the promised preventative measures installed urgently. How many more incursions, and how much more damage to our public spaces, must residents endure before action is taken?"
Birmingham City Council is preparing a statement.
