Tribute to Dad Killed in Midland Crash as Man Arrested

The family of a 61-year-old man killed in a two-car crash in the Midlands has paid tribute to him, as police arrest the other driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Incident Details

Clive 'Ted' Newman died when his silver Hyundai i20 collided with a black Toyota Corolla on Tillington Road in Hereford on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4. The crash occurred at approximately 11:30 PM, and Mr. Newman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man, a passenger from one of the vehicles, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency Response

West Midlands Ambulance Service received a call at 11:40 PM and dispatched two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic, and two doctors from the Mercia Accident Rescue Service. An ambulance service spokesman said: 'On arrival, crews discovered three patients. One of whom, a man, who was the driver of one of the cars was found to have suffered serious injuries. Sadly, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.'

Family Tribute

West Mercia Police released a statement on behalf of Mr. Newman's family, describing him as a 'much-loved and devoted husband, father, brother and son' who would be deeply missed.

Arrest and Investigation

West Mercia Police confirmed that a 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail while enquiries continue. Detective Sergeant Al Saxton said: 'Our thoughts remain with Clive's family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. This is a tragic incident, and we are committed to establishing exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the collision.'
