Two men have been sentenced to prison following a high-risk police pursuit through the streets of West Bromwich, which concluded with the discovery of a loaded firearm and a haul of Class A drugs.
Reckless Pursuit Captured on Dashcam
Tammem Miah, aged 23, was spotted by officers driving a stolen Ford Fiesta on May 5 this year. When police attempted to stop him, Miah fled, initiating a dangerous chase through the town. Dashcam footage from the pursuing police vehicle documented the Ford Fiesta ignoring red traffic signals and swerving onto the wrong side of the road in a desperate bid to escape.
Other motorists were forced to take evasive action, mounting pavements to avoid collisions as Miah drove with complete disregard for public safety. The pursuit finally ended when Miah crashed into another vehicle outside a property on Arthur Road in Tipton.
Firearm and Drugs Recovered
After the crash, Miah attempted to run from the scene but was apprehended by officers moments later. A search of a man bag he was carrying revealed a significant quantity of heroin and crack cocaine, along with a revolver and live ammunition.
Following Miah's arrest, officers searched the nearby home of his accomplice, 23-year-old Mohammed Ahmed. Inside, they found further quantities of Class A drugs and drug paraphernalia, leading to Ahmed's arrest.
Sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court
At Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, December 10, both men were sentenced. Tammem Miah pleaded guilty to a string of offences, including:
- Possession of a firearm and ammunition
- Possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply
- Dangerous driving
- Driving while disqualified
- Handling stolen goods
He was handed a nine-year prison sentence for his crimes.
Mohammed Ahmed admitted possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and was sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
Police Statement on the Case
Detective Constable Kyle Bowering, from the West Midlands Police Major Crime Team, commented on the severity of the incident. "Miah was armed with a potentially lethal weapon and was reckless in his efforts to avoid being apprehended by officers," he said.
"He was willing to endanger other lives in his attempt to escape. We confiscated Class A drugs from both Miah and Ahmed which were likely destined for sale. We understand that drugs not only destroy lives but also lead to additional crime, and they are now both rightly serving time behind bars."
The successful operation and subsequent convictions remove a dangerous weapon and a quantity of harmful drugs from the streets of Sandwell.
