Two men are receiving hospital treatment following a serious, targeted assault in County Durham which left one victim with facial injuries from an unknown substance and another with stab wounds.
Details of the Ferryhill Assault
The incident occurred on Parker Terrace in Ferryhill at approximately 10.30am on Wednesday, December 17. Emergency services were called to the scene after reports that two men had been attacked.
According to Durham Police, a 49-year-old man sustained injuries to his eye when an unknown corrosive or chemical substance was thrown directly into his face. A 44-year-old man who was with him suffered stab injuries during the same horrifying attack.
Police Investigation and Public Reassurance
Both casualties were taken to hospital for urgent medical treatment, where they remained as of the police statement. An investigation was launched immediately, with officers conducting several lines of enquiry.
Authorities have moved to reassure the local community, stating they are confident this was a targeted, isolated attack between individuals known to each other. They do not believe there is any wider threat to the general public.
"Officers would like to thank the community for their support and patience whilst the road was closed as initial enquiries took place," a force spokesperson said. "The road has now reopened."
Appeal for Information
Durham Police are now appealing to the public for assistance with their investigation. They are particularly keen to obtain any CCTV footage from the area around Parker Terrace at the time of the assault.
