Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested after a teenager was robbed at knifepoint in Victoria Park, Smethwick, on Monday evening (August 3). The victim sustained a knife wound to the head and had his mobile phone stolen during the attack, which occurred at approximately 5.20pm.
West Midlands Police officers responded swiftly to the scene, detaining two boys nearby for a stop and search. During the searches, officers recovered a mobile phone, a quantity of cannabis, and nitrous oxide canisters.
Arrests and Charges
The first 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of cannabis. The second 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of nitrous oxide. Both remain in police custody for questioning.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Two teenagers have been arrested after a boy was robbed in Smethwick yesterday evening. At around 5.20pm, a boy was assaulted in Victoria Park and sustained a knife wound to the head. His phone was also stolen.”
The spokesperson added: “Officers quickly responded and detained two boys nearby for a stop and search. During searches, a mobile phone and a quantity of cannabis and nitrous oxide were recovered.”

The arrests are part of Operation Ruby, a West Midlands Police initiative aimed at reducing robbery and bringing offenders to justice across the region. The operation focuses on hotspot areas, intelligence-led patrols, and proactive enforcement.
