Two Teenagers Charged Over Fatal Stabbing Outside Smethwick Mosque
West Midlands Police have issued a significant update regarding the murder of a teenager outside a mosque in Smethwick last month. Two boys, both aged 17, have been detained and formally charged with the murder of 18-year-old Zeshan Afzal.
Details of the Incident and Charges
The victim, Zeshan Afzal, was found with serious injuries on Oldbury Road in Smethwick on February 20. He later died from his wounds. Police confirmed that the two 17-year-old suspects were detained in connection with the death and have now been charged with murder.
The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been remanded and are scheduled to appear before Wolverhampton Youth Court on March 5.
This development follows previous charges against three other teenagers in relation to the same incident, which occurred after a disorder outside the mosque. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains very active as they work to establish the full sequence of events and identify all individuals involved.
Ongoing Police Investigation and Public Appeal
West Midlands Police have reiterated their appeal for information from the public. A spokesperson stated: "We know there were a number of people in the area at the time and we still need to hear from anyone with information as it could prove vital in our enquiries."
